Your first conversation with the firm

  1. Define the matter

Identify the type of matter, the court or agency involved, and any approaching date. Begin with general information so the firm can check for conflicts before discussing sensitive details.

  2. Review the questions ahead

The initial consultation is an opportunity to discuss your circumstances, your priorities, and the issues that need further review. Have court papers, existing orders, notices, or relevant agreements available.

  3. Understand the proposed representation

Discuss the scope of the work and the fee arrangement before deciding whether to retain the firm. Representation begins after the firm agrees to take the matter and the terms are established.
